  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

– 1 lb (approximately 450 g) ground pork sausage (any bulk pork sausage)

– ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

– ¼ cup (56 g) butter (salted or unsalted; reduce salt if using salted butter)

– ¼ cup (30 g) flour

– 2 cups (480 ml) milk (preferably whole or 2%)

– ½ teaspoon salt

– ¼ teaspoon onion powder

– ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

– 8 refrigerated biscuits (uncooked)

– 6 large eggs

– ¼ cup (60 ml) heavy cream (substitute whole milk if needed)

– 2 cups (about 240 g) shredded cheese (Colby Jack, cheddar, or alternatives like Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Gouda)

Instructions

1-Preheat: your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) casserole dish.

2-Brown: the ground pork sausage in a skillet, adding red pepper flakes near the end, then set aside.

3-In a saucepan: melt the butter over medium-low heat, whisk in flour, and cook for several minutes while stirring.

4-Gradually whisk: in the milk, salt, onion powder, and black pepper; simmer until thickened, stirring often.

5-Stir: about ½ cup (approximately 112 g) of the cooked sausage into the gravy.

6-Cut: the biscuits into quarters and arrange evenly in the casserole dish.

7-Layer: the biscuits with the remaining browned sausage and half of the shredded cheese.

8-Whisk: the eggs with the heavy cream and pour over the cheese layer.

9-Pour: the sausage gravy on top and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

10-Bake: uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until puffed, lightly browned, and the eggs are fully set.
