Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 cup melted butter

– 2 egg yolks

– 1/2 cup water

– 1 pound lean ground beef

– 1/2 yellow onion, diced

– 1 red bell pepper, diced

– 1/3 cup sofrito

– 1 tablespoon sazon seasoning

– 1 tablespoon salt-free adobo seasoning

– Salt to taste

– 1/3 cup tomato sauce

– 1/3 cup pimento olives, halved

– 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

1-Preparing the Dough: First, mix the dough ingredients in a bowl until a ball forms. Knead it on a floured surface until it’s no longer sticky, then chill for 30 minutes skipping this if you’re using pre-made dough helps on busy days.

2-Cooking the Filling: Next, in a pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef while breaking it up as it browns. Add the diced onions, bell peppers, sofrito, sazon seasoning, adobo seasoning, and salt, then stir in the tomato sauce and olives once the beef is ready. Simmer partially covered for 10 minutes until everything is cooked through.

3-Assembling and Frying: Now, dust a clean surface with flour and roll the dough into 1/4-inch thick circles. Spoon the filling onto one half of each circle, fold over, and seal by pinching with a fork use a drop of water if needed for a tight seal. Heat the vegetable oil to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and fry for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy, then drain on paper towels.
