  • Total Time: Approximately 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: 10 naan breads

Ingredients

– 1/4 cup warm water

– 2 teaspoons granulated sugar

– 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast or instant, rapid rise

– 3/4 cup warm milk

– 3/4 cup Greek yogurt or natural plain yogurt

– 1/4 cup vegetable oil plus 2 tablespoons extra for cooking

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 4 cups plain flour plus extra for dusting

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 3 tablespoons melted butter

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 teaspoon fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped

– 4 cups plain flour

– 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

1-First, activate the yeast by combining it with warm water and sugar; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.

2-In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, baking powder, and minced garlic. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, yogurt, and vegetable oil; knead until a smooth dough forms.

3-Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.

4-Divide the dough into 10 balls, then roll each into an oval shape about 6 inches long and 1/8 inch thick.

5-Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and grease it with some vegetable oil.

6-Cook each piece for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, flip, and cook another 1-2 minutes until golden. Wrap in a towel to keep warm.

7-Once done, brush with a mix of melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro or parsley before serving.

Notes

๐Ÿงˆ Incorporate yogurt and oil in the dough to achieve a soft and fluffy texture.
๐Ÿณ Roll the dough thinly to encourage air pockets and bubbles during cooking for tenderness.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Use high heat on the skillet to help naan rise quickly and develop beautiful golden spots.
๐Ÿงป Keep cooked naan wrapped in a kitchen towel to maintain softness.
๐Ÿง„ Apply garlic butter topping just before serving to keep it fresh and flavorful.
